Good day everyone. I had been having issues with my CO2 laser cutting performance. I did ask about this on another post. I removed my wiring from power supplies. Reattach them. Fastened all screws on my units. Found some screws not to be tight enough. I found dat my main power supply for the wall had some loose connection in the unit. I also found that the connector plug between my main power supply to the tube was not making proper contact. I had occasional arching in the unit. Some time ago I was working bear foot and noticed some power shock het touching the unit. Not much.
My laster tube is now cutting at 10mm/sec 50% power where I had to ramp it up to same speed but 85% power. 50w tube. Could this have caused my issues loosing power when cutting for 30min and more?
That indicates the machine frame is not properly connected to the earth = safety ground conductor, which can kill you due to a wiring fault. Whether that is caused by a loose screw, a missing wire, or a miswired wall outlet cannot be determined without careful attention to detail.
Start with an AC line tester like these, intended for whatever voltage / outlet configuration you have:
It must indicate a proper ground and wiring configuration.
Also test the outlet on the “main power supply for the wall” which had various problems.
