Losing the will to live over new issue of axis inversion on S1

Hi, and thank you in advance if you can help.

xTool S1, MacBook Pro M3, latest Lightburn (RC3).

The X axis has randomly inverted.

My skill/experience level is ‘medium’ with the cutter itself, and ‘very high’ with troubleshooting and IT in general.

I’ve just come back to my xTool S1 after a few months away, and first thing I did was run some basic tests to refamiliarise myself, in xTool Creative Space. You’d think that the hardware manufacturers would make their software work well with their devices, but I have not found this to be the case—there are so many shortcomings in it (still), and Lightburn is far superior in most ways.

So after I checked everything was working in XCS, I fired up Lightburn, and it immediately told me there was a new version, so I upgraded with gusto.

Now, I have no idea what has happened since I was last using it, but now my X axis has inverted.

When I jog “up” or “down”, the laser moves up or down. Yes!

BUT when I jog “left” it goes RIGHT and when I jog “right” it goes LEFT. Gah!

This is the case regardless of the “Origin” I choose in Device Settings.

I have tried removing the device and re-adding it but that hasn’t helped.

I have tried firing $3=0 and $3=1 at the laser to invert the X axis but despite returning “ok” both times, it’s made no difference.

I am actually at a complete loss to know where to go from here.

Thank you very much for reading.

One thing it could be is the Origin selection in the Device Settings window.

You didn’t specify which version of Lightburn you were running before the update. Also, you should have not received a notification from within the program for a release candidate, only public releases. Verify what version of Lightburn you’re running. I suggest sticking with the latest public release until you get things working, that is 1.7.06.
The following post addresses a new lbdev file for the S1. After verifying you are running 1.7.06, follow the instructions.

Thanks for this suggestion but changing this changes the orientation but it is still flipped.

Thank you for your reply, Tim.

The version I was having trouble with was LightBurn Core 2.0.00-RC-3 @ d371aa7 Qt6.5.7.

I have followed your advice and installed the latest 1.7 as per those instructions and it is working fine again.

I’ll try with the v2 RC again at some point and update the thread.
