I bought a LOTR Middle Earth map about a year ago (on the same day, that my laser was delivered). It was a well digitized 2D SVG file of the original map inside the LOTR books. It was quite cheap (<=3€). My plan was to create a wooden wall art of this for my son.
Even with no knowledge of nothing, it was not a big deal to process the SVG as simple lines into wood. However, as you can imagine, the result was far from satisfying,
To make it better, I had to learn many lessons about my laser, about wood and about Lightburn (Inkscape/Visicut) first. I divided paths into different layers, For every layer, I separated paths into “cut” , “line” and “engrave”. I added frames, resized text objects, added additional cut paths, and, and, and…
One year later, the result is still not perfect. I already have a list of things, that I will do better, if I ever will remake it. Nevertheless, this three-layered map is, what I will gift to my son tomorrow.
I am now in my late 60s. in the past decades I read LOTR at least a dozen times. So you may say, I am kind of a fan. Believe me, when I say, that until today I never ever heard about “Bored of the Rings.” I will definitly give this story a chance.

I got that paperback in 1971/1972, after reading LOTR, and I’ve read it as many times as I’ve read LOTR. More than 50 years later, that map still makes me -laugh out loud-!
Oh no, it was a project that lasted a year to complete. It was not the one and only project in that year. I had several smaller “projects”, that helped me to learn, what I needed for this map.
