Machine stopped, no movement

a few days ago my diode machine that I use Lightburn on stopped moving. It has worked good for about 6 monthes. I am using this control board.

I have changed the usb cable, that is between pc and control board. I have shut down PC and laser machine severasl timea and over night. I have uninstalled Lightburn vervion 1.7.08 and reverted back to 1.7.07 which I know has worked great.
The board does seem to connect as I hear the chime when connect cable and I am able to create shapes and edit files. As stated I am not ble to move or jog the machine in any direction. Machine does not start when selected.
Anyone know any positive ideas that I can find out what to check for and why or what is not working? Is it PC problems. Is it control board problems? How do I find out what is not working.

Can you do screen shot with console and laser window open?

Yes , it is not connecting…

This is wierd as I have 3 machines on 3 PC`s and have always been able to connect.

Also, when I type $$ into the console, it does not bring up any grbl settings ?

Could an emergency switch have been accidentally activated?

Do you see any status light illuminated on the laser?

As Luis suggested, if there is a red emergency switch, try twisting it clockwise to see if it pops out.

It’s also possible that your COM port changed. - Try the other options here:

Finally, if your settings have changed, you can restore from a Prefs Backup

Thanks for the replies, I have checked the emergency stop, it is out. I did remove the device and re connected it. I went into device manager on seen the driver for the machine. There is only 1 com port available and it is correct. Since I am not able to see any GRBL settings when I enter the $$ in comand bar, am I able to re flash these? Or is it possible I should just purchase a new control board?

Is the device showing up like this in the Device Manager, and does it disappear when you unplug the laser?

That’s expected if you’re not connected to the controller.

Can you copy and paste the full output on the console when you connect the laser?

Technically, you should be able to reflash the whole controller. I’d suggest reaching out to the manufacturer for specific instructions.

Yes, the highlighted line is what it looks like in device manager…com 3. When I connect the cable from control to Pc it does chime, I thought it was connecting.

That’s a good sign!

After choosing the correct COM port in LightBurn, right-click inside the Console and choose “Select All”. Copy and paste the contents in a reply.

Seems it will not connect, this is why I think it is control board. If I purchase a control board what needs to bwe done? Is it plug and play, other than setting up machine?

I would say yes.
I confirmed that you have already changed the USB cable. Does the cable you connected have a ferrite core? If it doesn’t, replace it with one that does before changing the board.

the machine has been working for the last year with a cord without a ferrite cord. I did try a new cord as I thought possible the connection ends are faulty. Nothing has changed. Leaning towards a new board. Original manufacture replacement is not available. Any recemendations on a replacement board?

The reason for using a cable with a ferrite core has to do with eliminating electrical noise that affects data transmission. Normally the symptom is occasional failures in communication, but if the electronic noise is high, communication may not be possible.

It’s just a suggestion before you incur higher costs, and cables with ferrite cores may already be at home since they are used in various electronic equipment.

However, this board is available for sale without being from manufacturer.
Do a search with the image you placed at the beginning and several results will appear.

You do have com4 selected?

I appreciate all the suggestions and help. I did order a new ardinuio board and everything is back to working. Got machine set up and did some test burns. I do have 2 gliches that I have not experienced before…Text is engraving horizontally mirrored(upside down) and the transvers lines are engraving. How do i correct these? *EDIT…So this morning I was able to correct the mirrored and engraving the transvers lines. Had to correct the acceleration as X axis stepper was stalling.

It’s not always the board’s fault, but this time it was. :+1:
Problem solved!
