Material/cut settings/ cut layers naming convention

When creating a new material in the “Materials Library” we give it a material name, title, description.

When you edit “Cut Settings” there is no name assigned to it. It should carry the “Description” from “New Material” I just created.

When I assign that “Cut Settings” to a “Cut Layer” that “Description/Name” should show up in the “#” the column in “Cut/Layers.

If I were to decide to modify the setting in a “Cut setting”. Maybe I want to change it for a particular project only”. Then the that “Cut Setting’s name is deleted from the “# column” in the Cut Layers. That would indicate it has been modified.

Example: I may have a cut setting for light, medium, or dark text. Maybe I always want my text setting to me assigned to C20. How do I know what I have assigned to “Cut/Layer” C20 without looking at the “Cut Setting”, and how do I know if I haven’t changed it from its original setting in the “Material Library.

I may make my naming convention “Maple dark text” or Birch dark text” or “Basswood light text”. I could give you many more examples, but space is limited.

Depending on what material I am using I can see what my current settings are and reassign any cut settings if necessary.

This sounds like a feature request, so you should post it so it can be voted on.

What if the next cut layer does not use a newly created Material Library entry. If Lightburn is to auto-populate the cuts layer name, how is it supposed to know which Material Library entry to use?

What if I am using the same material for a 7-layer project? Should every Layer have the same name?

If each layer of your project uses the same settings then uses the same cut/layer.
This is what I use
C01 is my normal engrave layer, but I may have a different material normal for each material. Basswood is engraved differently for birch, maple etc.
So if I am working on a project I want to know what the C01 layer is currently set to. I would hate the screw up a basswood project by accidentally having C01 set to Maple. Ex: C01 Maple normal C02 Cut 1/4” Maple or Cut 3mm Birch plywood, etc.
If you don’t have anything assigned to the cut layer then the would not have name, or if you modified that cut layer, and not the material lib then it would clear the cut layer name.

Thanks I will put it up for a vote.

This works until one layer is the front and a second is the back, at least in my setups. I do admit where time is money and you make a lot of products, your suggestion could be a benefit.
