Material Test Doubt

Hi, Im new with this software, I need to make material test only for engraving not for cutting, is there any way that I can do it? Im using leather and non woven fabrics so cutting is not required and it deforms the material when testing.
Thank you for the help!

The only difference between cutting and engraving is the speed and power settings used. Reduce power and/or increase speed so that you’re not cutting through the material. Additionally, the layer mode fill is typically not used for cutting while line and fill are often used for engraving.

The only difference between a cutting and engraving is the power level. This is nothing that defines a cut, it’s just a deeper engraving.

Lower you power and/or increase the speed.

I suppose I should change this part shown in the picture, right? It comes predefined and Im not controlling yet the ratios, Im not sure about what speed or power to set up for sampling. Thank you so much in advance.

I doubt your machine can run 2000mm/s, maybe 2000mm/m? This can be set in the Settings. Most ssl lasers use mm/m as they tend to be slower than the larger gantry co2 lasers… They are getting quicker.

I have a very light head and can get around 1650mm/s, which is quite fast on a co2.

You may have to run the materials test more than once if you are clueless (like the rest of us) with a new material. Once to find where some kind of middle ground is.

Good luck

Yes. Part of this is experimental. If you’re over burning then lower the power on the top end of the range. Keep doing that until you’re in a productive range for the test.

Same with speed. As Jack has indicated, your speeds are likely far faster than your machine is capable of moving. Adjust down in that case but generally higher speed equals less power. That falls apart if you’re specifying faster than your machine can move.

Thank you very much for your replies, its really helpful.
