Material test failure

I do a material test and the laser cuts thru at 100mm/sec and 100 power. But when i run a file with the same settings it doesnt cut thru

If that’s on the K40 in your profile, cutting at 100 mm/s probably isn’t going to work except for very thin materials.

The reason it does cut in the Material Test: the laser head never gets anywhere close to 100 mm/s on those small squares. The file you imported probably has much longer straight or gently curved sections, so the head can reach higher speeds and, at those speeds, doesn’t deposit enough energy to burn through the material.

The RepRap Acceleration calculator will give you an idea of how much distance the head requires to get up to a given speed.

For example, my CO₂ laser has a Y axis acceleration of 1500 mm/s², but it never reaches 100 mm/s during a 5 mm motion:

Feed in the acceleration values for your machine and see what happens.

You can enlarge the size of the Material Test squares to suit the predicted distances, although making the squares too large uses a lot of material.

It is on the longer ray5. It is got the 10watt laser on it.
And is suppose to be able to cut thru 5mm at 120mm/minute. Sorry i said per sec earlier.

This depends entirely on the material. My 10w reliably cuts 2.8mm Baltic Birch using 800mm/m, 80%, and 5 passes.

Are you trying to do it in 1 pass?

Well longer ray says it will. So yes thats what im trying to do. But when i get back home today i will try multiple passes
