Material test problem

I did a material test for 3mm plywood but I noticed an error. I chose a speed of 200-800 mm/min and 1 pass, but during the test I noticed that the laser does several passes, not just one. I have 1 pass selected in the layer settings. I have a feeling that this started to appear after upgrading to version 1.4.04. How is it possible that there are more passes? Is there another option to set the number of passes?

Check to see if you actually have multiple copies of the shape. This could look like multiple passes when actually you’re just asking for multiple of the same shape to be cut.

Another more arcane way that I use to see if I have some unwanted lines etc.?

Click on any line, curve, segment, holding the mouse down and slide the portion you clicked on. If you have wonky lines etc. you can see it immediately. You can back up to beginning by using Control “Z” on a Mac, I forget what it is on Windows.

This happens when I use the built-in material test generator.

I must not be seeing what you’re seeing. Is this supposed to be a video?

It is a screenshot of my settings from where I perform a material test.

I’m not seeing the problem. Maybe I’m just tired.

I solved the problem. I had several different presets saved in the material test for different materials. I deleted all the presets and now the program works as expected. Could this be a bug?

Are you able to reproduce the issue? If so, try to isolate to steps necessary to reproduce. Then the team can review the issue.

I reproduced the problem. The video is uploaded to youtube https://youtu.be/5wRC0LAbI6I . If I first select the engraving test, the result is correct, but if I later select cutting, it remains engrave and the layer does not change to cutting. Everything is visible at 0:20 and 0:52 minutes and 1:15 and 1:29 minutes.

Is this a different issue? I thought the issue was about multiple passes vs single pass?

I’m confused by the video. It looks like the preview shows the correct view for Fill vs Line every time.

At first I thought that the problem was in the number of transitions, but when I tried to reproduce the problem, I came to the conclusion that the problem is in the layers.

  1. I set the test for cutting, layer to line, the result is OK, I save the setting as cutting
  2. I set the test for engraving, layer to fill, the result is OK, I save the setting as engraving
  3. if I now select the saved setting for cutting, the layer setting remains fill, it should be line.

Okay. So is the actual issue that the saved settings don’t reflect the operation that was saved?

[EDIT] I just tested this and can’t get it to occur at least on 1.5.00 beta.

Are you able to delete your presets and then create a step-by-step list that makes the problem occur?

Yes!

In the video I uploaded to YouTube, I did exactly that. I deleted all the presets and reproduced the procedures.

I think I see the problem after reviewing the video again. When you change the layer mode, you’re not resaving the preset. You would need to do so for the setting to be retained.

Yes, you are wright, I didn’t save changes. I went through the whole process again and the material test works as it should.
