Material Test Ruida 40W CO2 Laser - strange results - not cutting at max power

Hello all,

I have a strange behavior when cutting 3mm plywood.
In the material test, it only cuts at 10mm/s and 45% - 70% power.

What can be the reason for this?

Thanks in advance.
Greetings Marco

  1. properly working tube
  2. clean and aligned optics
  3. proper focus

If you have these three, they work…

Which are you missing?

Ensure it’s aligned and that you check for the tubes resonance mode at m1.

I noticed you have K40 and Ruida tags… how is it K40 related?

Hi Jack,

thanks for the reply.
I have rechecked the alignment and I am well aligned at every position on the bed.
Optic is new and clean.
I did the focustest and set the distance to the wood correctly.

The high voltage power supply and tube are from my K40.

But what do you mean by tubes resonance mode 1 at m1?
I don’t understand that.

Sometimes the laser also cuts good, but it looks like the result is not constantly satisfactory.

It’s how the light amplification works as part of the laser…

Here is another explanation that is a bit more technical, but might clear up what’s happening.

If it’s out of resonance it can be hard to impossible to get properly aligned.

Hey there, maybe that’s the problem?

Hello all,

after the new focus lens arrived and was installed, the laser runs again as desired.

Greetings from Tyrol

Thank you for being willing to show what the problem was, because it’s hard to admit overlooking something that’s obvious in retrospect.

Now everybody can benefit from your example showing what to check when everything looks like it should work.

Glad to see the machine is running well again!
