Hi! I have a Sculpfun S9 and have an issue (I think) with the materials test. I wanted to see what slowing the machine way down would do on a Materials Test but the minimum speed won’t go below 60 mm/min. I can manually do a test at 5 or 15 but the Materials test doesn’t seem to go below that. Is there a setting that I’m missing? Does the S9 not go below 60mm/min and I’m just kidding myself with the 5 and 15? Thanks!
Are you using the test generator? Or did you test the 5 mm/min also using the move window and buttons?
I was using the Test Generator and it only goes down to 60mm/m. To do the 5 and 15, I manually drew a couple of squares and set the speed like you normally would doing a burn.
Ah, ok, I think I read the initial post wrong. I can imagine that this is by intention that you can’t go slower because you usually shouldn’t In general, I wouldn’t recommend using speeds below 200mm/min no matter of material etc. The slower you go, the more charring and the less effective the laser is. So the key is going faster and using more passes, this saves time in the end.
Hmm…hadn’t thought about that. This particular test was for etching stainless steel so no real issue with charring (or is there?) but I don’t think multiple passes will work with metal since the coating (paint or whatever) will be gone after the first pass.
Yes, I think charring doesn’t apply here (much). I didn’t try marking stainless steel with the S9, but using the S10, I also never went below 100. But for the S10 you don’t need any coating, it works directly. So like always - trial and error
But you might also be able to generate slower tests using the other generators, like Lightburn Engraving Interval Test - O2 Creative
…or buy an S10. Which I’m pondering the more I play with the S9.Or upgrade the S9 laser.
The S9 can be easily upgraded with the S10 module. If you consider upgrading the whole laser, then choose the S30 Pro, it’s cheaper than the S10 comparing the included features.
Cool, thanks! I’ll research.
