Minimum interval <0.001mm

Hi,

I’m hunting for different colors on stainless steel using a JPT M8 MOPA 20W. In the material test , I can generate patterns between 0.0001mm an 0.0010mm, however the Cut settings editor forces values of 0.001mm and upward. I have read this thread which doesn’t offer a solution. If I hand edit the interval in a .lbrn file to below 0.001mm, the UI will show 0.001, but the actual cut will be the desired interval, but certain actions trigger this to be reset. Also applies to editing prefs.ini. This makes a kinda pain in the backside loop of closing lightburn and re-editing the file every time a tweak to a setting is made.
I understand the time taken can be ridiculous at such low intervals, and it can be on the “too much heat” side, but if I can consistantly reproduce the certain shade of green I want with an interval below 0.001, I don’t think a UI constraint should be stopping me!

There is a bit limit to how small they can go and I don’t know what that is.

Maybe @JohnJohn can inform us… we’ll probably have to wait a day for a response.

a little physics! The resolution of the scanner will not allow setting less than 1 micron. You have 16bit resolution and 8urad repeatability.
16bit its a 65536dots on full 30-40dg of scanner. For example rectangle is 100mm but circle is 140mm / 16bit its a 0,00213623046875mm

I know that the XY2-100 protocol defaults to 16 bit, but it also has an enhanced 18-bit output mode. SL2-100 is 20bit, and XY3-100 is 16-26 bit.
The thing is whatever effect if getting with the material test generator at 0.0003 and when I hand hack in the same values to a lbrn file is giving me excellent results. I would understand the resolution limit being hit if everything sub 0.001 was the same, but they show as much variation then as other parts of the parameter space.
The UI enforcing the 0.001 limit seems arbitrary, especially when hardware available that is compatible with existing drivers has a greater resolution than the limit.

I dont see any problem with 10micron step then mark colours

The greens at the bottom come out consistently when I hand edit the interval to match those shown.
