My question is probably already answered on this forum somewhere, but I am not able to locate it. For some reason I do not have access to the minimum power % settings in the cut/layer tab in Lightburn. I watch many Lightburn Video’s on YouTube and seems like most all video’s show the option for minimum power % just below the maximum power % and some videos go into why you might want to use that feature. Why does Lightburn software not show me this option? Is it because both my Lasers are Diodes? The only time the minimum power % will show up is if I drag in a bitmap image, it will unhide itself and show but it’s greyed out and disabled. I have the latest up to date Lightburn software and firmware on my Lasers. (Ortur and xTool D1)
I don’t think grbl really handles the min power option. Lightburn is good about not allowing you to change values that don’t apply to your system/controller.
I think you can use it in image mode because of a variation in the pixels.
I believe this is Lightburn, as it generates a ‘ton’ of code changing the power level so quickly.
The Ruida type controllers handle it properly and is real handy with vector cutting.
This is answered in several posts but here’s one for reference:
Long story short, Min power is not used for g-code systems other than for grayscale images. It was never meant to show or be changeable.
Thanks Jack, I thought maybe it was something I was doing wrong or had to reinstall because something was corrupt.
Thanks PY, I am slowly going to move up to a C02 laser, just to find out if I like the hobby I was testing out the lower cost diode lasers. It does make sense now that you mentioned it that the g-code would be very large.
That’s a good procedure. You can make ‘cheap’ mistakes on the lower cost equipment that are not so devastating to your pocket book.
I started with a CNC3018 (have a few still) for pcb engraving and quickly got drawn into lasers. First on the 3018, now with a co2 5030…
Now it’s almost an obsession… so be warned.
Good luck
