Miserable time calibrating steppers to Ruida 6445

When I use the calibrate tool I have cut a 200mm square but the actual distance is 25mm.
I insert that into the calibration wizard for both x and y axis.
Then when I do a test cut the steppers whine but dont move.
I have tried the stepper drivers in all microstepping modes but arent having any joy.
I cant see a way to do this.
Incidentally its also a router table and when driven under Mach3 works perfectly.
Any ideas or suggestions.
Regards Ben

You probably have the speeds or accelerations set way too high. Lasers are generally very lightweight compared to CNC router tables. If your steppers are whining, they’re skipping. When you changed the step length to be correct, part of the effect of that change would also be to make things move much quicker, which is why the motors are now slipping. Lower the acceleration and speed until you get a feel for what works.
