Monport GM 60W Pro MOPA – BSLFiber Ready but Live Framing Does Not Move

Hi, I’m using a Monport GM 60W Pro Integrated MOPA Fiber Laser (MP-UK1943) with LightBurn Pro 2.1.04 on macOS.

LightBurn detects the machine as BSLFiber and the Laser panel shows Ready. I rebuilt the device from scratch and imported the supplied BslCAD.cfg from the SeaCAD configuration folder.

The field is set to 175 × 175 mm. The red guide dot works and can be turned on from LightBurn.

The problem is Live Framing. I click Frame → Bounds → Run Continuously → Start. LightBurn behaves as though framing is running, but the red dot stays completely stationary and does not trace the design at all.

I have tested small artwork and a roughly 100 × 100 mm design with the same result.

Current relevant settings:

  • BSLFiber
  • Fiber Type: JPT
  • Q-Pulse Width enabled
  • Red Dot: IO 3
  • Ready Light: IO 3
  • Start Framing: None
  • Start Marking: None
  • Red Dot Always On: Off
  • Enable Blanking: Off
  • Frame Speed: 7000 mm/s

The machine remains connected and shows Ready.

Can anyone advise what could cause Live Framing to run without any galvo/red-dot movement? I can attach screenshots of my Galvo and Ports/Laser settings.

Hello Jake, welcome to the forum. :tada:

Most of us here are users and can usually answer most questions without a bother to the staff.

Assuming same type of equipment. I have a Cloudray 60W with an M60 JPT M7 MOPA as a source. However, my controller is a jcl jcz type.

If you can hear the galvo mirrors moving and the dot stays still, I’d assume it’s a dot for something else. The visible laser source is either in the galvo head or in the source. They should go through the galvo to be of any use.

If the galvo mirrors are moving and the dot is stationary, it would seem to me it’s the wrong dot. You do know about the focus dots? Match the dots and you’re in focus.. :man_shrugging: Nice thought, but I made focus sticks, which work much better as I have four lenses and theos dots are a pia to adjust. Mine are turned off.

My assumption is you missed something in the configuration of the machine and should be in the device information. Since you enabled q-pulse, I assume you know what and where I"m talking about. I don’t know what a stationary dot would be used for with these lasers. Ensure you have the proper source. Sometimes the wrong source works, but can’t add much to that.

Did you load the EZCad configuration file when setting up the device itself? This holds your machines configuration and also the correction information for that particular lens. Do you have more than one lens?

If this doesn’t help, we’ll ask for bigger guns. I know there are some subtleties between my controller and yours, but I’m not really up on them.

Did you search for your control board? That might give you something else to check. Most of the staff or development people are usually taking the weekend off, which they deserve.

Here is my information for my source. The green dots are dynamic, so if you press you foot switch while watching this display, the green squares will change.

Sing out if you still have issues.

I have been doing some testing with a FBLI-B-LV4 board, just getting started really but one thing I have found is you can’t have 2 commands using the same I/O port. But like Jack said, we are running the BJJCZ’s. Caveat: All guess work to follow–I assume your IO 3 is a ttl output off pin 4 or 5 if similar architecture to our boards, and possibly if you isolated the 2 and had correct power it could work. I would suggest disabling first the framing, see if ready light works, second, disable ready light and enable framing see if it works.

I guess question zero is did it work with seacad software?

I don’t have ready lights and my framing laser is powered on with the laser so my I/O out pins 4, 5 are freed up for communicating with another device when I get things sorted out and documented. Might happen in my lifetime.

Just out of curiosity, what are you up to? Looks like you have limit switches, relays a jcz board?

Always willing to lean new stuff… so it may be of benifit to others here. I’m not the diy’er around this neighborhood.

P.S. thanks for the help…

:grinning_cat:

Limit switchs are just 100% reliable dumb contacts I used first to test IO 14, 15, remark. Confirmed remark needs to be controlled from the bjjcz board contacts, does not show as an IO.

Also tried to get the DB 25 to output laser 5V on 18 and 19 but not successful with that yet.

LB reads it as a laser, sends commands fine. Board has ready and marking leds so back burnered that for now.

Final goal is 2 way communication with XY table through my g-code controller.

I bought the board as a backup for the production machine but then decided it was easier to smoke test the board on the bench instead of smoke testing the production laser and then swapping the backup board in.

So far no magic smoke escaped so continuing on. I figure when I post results ill get some “what about if you do this” feedback.

So basically, no purpose other then tinkering around in the name of science until the magic smoke escapes!

Some fun 3d printing involved as well modular build plate and component sleds and brackets.

Sounds very interesting, keep us updated.

Thanks.

Hi all,

Thank you for your responses and for taking the time to help.

I’ll properly respond tomorrow when I’m back with the machine and can work through and test the suggestions you’ve given me.

Really appreciate the help so far.

Thanks,
Jake

Clicking “Frame” in the Laser window opens this window and should start framing immediately.

Clicking “Start” here will start the engraving.

As Jack pointed out, this might be the stationary “assist laser”, not the framing dot through the lens.
See if enabling “Red Dot Always On” in the Device Settings helps.

Thanks for dropping in… Is there a difference in setup for a BSL fiber controller and a jcz?

I guess what I’m asking is what is different between the two controllers?

:grinning_cat:

They are different manufacturers using an entirely different protocol.
For BSL, we have to use their library for communication, which makes it difficult to debug sometimes.

See this example:

Well that clarifies the issue. Thanks.

Hi All,

Apologies i went quiet. I managed to get it to work but its a little temperamental.

Basically i decided to start again. i opened lightburn pressed devices - find my laser - that then showed my laser but with the wrong work area size (110 x 110) should be 175. then i uploaded the config BslCAD.cfg then the Lmcpar.cfg and under the Lmcpar.cfg one the settings/info come up correct.

then where it says laser and the status, it turned from disconnected to framing. Which it should have said Ready so i pressed on the framing button to see if anything would happen and it would’nt do anythings i came out of that and just pressed on the device button multiple times and eventually it changed status from framing to ready (dont ask why lol) and then i managed to get the framing to work and then actually engrave something - so not sure whats happening really but at least ive managed to get it to laser engrave. once i got it working i ended up scrambling around trying to find things to zap which ended up being half our cutlery (Mrs wasn’t happy but she’ll get over it) it was great fun i just need to figure out how to get deeper engravings so i can put my logo/makers mark on my Jewellery.

Anyway i hope that makes some kind of sense

Go down to the dollar store, they have very low cost stainless steel knives of all kinds.

I picked up a few of these for a few bucks at the Dollar store to test on. The resulting settings were good enough to mark my expensive kitchen knives.

You want to mark them not engrave them. If they are engraved that’s a great area to pick up debris from what you’re cutting. It also makes them more difficult to clean.

You can’t feel either of these marks with your finger.

Have fun… cheaply…
