Monport Onyx Settings

Can someone send or post the machine settings for the Monport Onyx? I have a new machine and I can not get it to home properly. It is grinding and attempting to move outside of the workspace.

If you power it up without any software connected, does it home properly?

If Lightburn is configured incorrectly you could have issues. Ensure the correct homing location in Lightburn, likely the device settings. Mine homes to the top/left or rear/left.

Doesn’t’ Monport have some kind of setup process to use Lightburn instead of RDWorks?

I have tried everything in the user manual. When I power up the machine without being connected to the PC, it tries to over extend the Z access but it does not go to home. If I click the home button in lightburn it goes to the opposite side from where I have selected and begins griding as though it’s not detecting the boundaries of the work area. So far…not impressed by Monport…

The video on these show the Lightburn configuration with the home at the back/right. You have it configured to the front/right.

Has this ever worked in any way? Either with or without Lightburn?

I had a quick look at some Youtube vids and it looks like your origin should be back right and you also appear to have your Lightburn Homing disabled. That being said as Jack asked Does it home ok when its not connected to your PC?. If so then its just a Lightburn setup issue. Try deleting it from Lightburn and let it set it up again for you. I assume that you have the bed installed so it can home to it if required.

I’d try connecting Lightburn and disabling the Z homing to see if you have a Z home issue.

You can disable Z homing in the Ruida - Edit → Machine settings. Find the Z axes and disable home operation. If Z doesn’t home, it could cause the rest of the process to fail.

If this is a new machine, I’d contact the vendor and find out from them. There are also a few youtube videos on configuring it with Lightburn.

I have been working on this all day. After watching many videos…I noticed that when I manually move the laser head to the center of the work bed the “show last position” is way off. The photo attached is with the laser head in the center of the bed but it’s displaying outside of the bed. Is there way to correct this?

Is it booting correctly now? Did you have to disable an axes?

:smiley_cat:

It is not, when it boots even without being connected to lightburn it tries to home out of bounds and the limit switches do nothing to stop it. I have a support ticket with Monport but at this point I am ready to return it and invest in something with better support such as xtool.

You can’t fix it if it doesn’t work on it’s own, such as booting.

If the setting are wrong inside the laser, then Lightburn has a tough time talking to it and getting the results you expect.

I think returning it to them if they can’t fix it is probably a good idea.

Let us know how they treat you.
