More ungrouping! FML @#$%&!

Here we go again. I’ve spent hours trying to figure this out! I KNOW there’s a simple way to do it because I’ve done it accidentally before.

I have 3 words in a box. I want to edit two of the letters. I’m getting REALLY tired of putting every letter on a different layer, then having to go back and reposition them. I want to simply separate the letters from one another so I can tweak individual lines and arcs. When I select the 3 words, I can’t ungroup them. The button is greyed out and not active. I’ve been through the forum, I’ve spent WAY too much time watching videos. I’ve spent most of my day trying to perform a function that should take about 3-5 seconds. Can someone PLEASE explain this to me and not just post a link to the documentation?

Right click when selected and convert to path.

OMG!!! How unbelievably non-intuitive can a UI be?!

Thank you VERY much!

The logic may be obscure to you, but the UI is world class. Don’t blame the software for what you have not learned.

The caveat is that once you change text to path…it’s not text, ever again. Don’t get mad.

You are correct, the UI is solid, my complaint is more about nomenclature. “Convert to path”? Someone had to think about what to name this function.

Would Convert to Vector be more intuitive?

This function converts a text object to a set of line segments, forming a path. How would you call that differently? Once you got used the nomenclature of vector editing, this will be the best fitting term you can think of  In a few weeks, this will become all natural for you

“Would convert to vector be more intuitive?”

Exactly.

As the old after school tv programs so aptly put it… “The more you know…”

Knowledge builds on knowledge.

Now you know, and knowing is half the battle - G.I. Joe

But incorrect  A vector is a straight line between two points. A path is a series of vectors and curves that build a shape.

Haha! I was perfectly happy with the “Convert to Path”.
