When selecting multiple objects in a cut layer, each object receives all the passes at once, before the laser moves to the next object. This often causes scorching with smaller objects. Is there a setting that makes the laser do a single pass on each of the selected objects, then go to the next pass until all passes are completed?

I have encountered what you are describing. It seem it is more an issue of soot rather than actual burning.
You can put the smaller objects on a different Layer and reduce the power a little. It will be a fine line between cutting through and not scortch.
You could also put each pass on a different layer. But honestly I do not think this would solve your problem.
This sounds more like a cutting strategy thing.
If you are choosing multiple passes for a single layer. Then the laser will pass over that same shape for each pass until it is completed then move on to the next shape.
If this is causing excessive heating and causing scorching in your cut line you could try adding each subsequent pass as a separate sub-layer.
Rather than using multiple passes, add a sub layer with the same settings for each subsequent pass. This way it should complete each shape individually then go back for each sub-layer.
That can allow your materials to cool between each pass and it could help with charring.
Also make sure you have adequate air pressure. Are you cutting with air on?
