Mute or Solo objects

Hi, is there a way of “muting” or “soloing” a certain shape so only that shape is affected? Right now I send it to a “trash” layer but it’s not the best solution because some of the shapes are composed of more than one layer, so if I need to go back to it, I have to reassign everything.

I see this as in an audio recording software, on a track I can have multiple clips and enable or disable them individually without having to mute the whole track.

Maybe my workflow is wrong, or maybe there’s an option like this and I haven’t found it. Please let me know your suggestions.

Thank you

What would you do with that shape? If it’s to burn only that shape you can use “Cut selected graphics” in Laser window. If it’s something else then would need a different solution.

I’m not really following this. One shape can only ever belong to a single layer. Or is this perhaps a group of shapes?

If you can elaborate on what you’re trying to do that might make apparent what options exist.

Probably my terminology is wrong. I attached an example of what I meant by a “shape composed of many layers”

Let’s say I have many objects like in the picture attached and after cutting them, I need to go back and redo some of them. Now what I do is send all the other objects to a trash layer, but if I need to retouch anything on those objects I have to reassign the shapes to the layers, and sometimes it’s very tedious especially on very complex SVGs.

That would be the “solo” option, but sometimes I need the opposite, burning all except that shape (“mute”). What I imagine is selecting all of the youtube logo with all its layers, right click Solo/Mute.

I think the closest approximation to this would be toggling the “Output” flag in Cut / Layers window.

That will determine whether or not that layer is considered for output. So disabling output on one would be like muting that whole layer.

That wouldn’t work in my case because it would mute all the shapes at the same time. I guess I’ll keep using the manual “trash layer” method.

Thanks for taking the time to reply

One thing that may be useful… if you hold shift while clicking on the layer, all shapes on that layer will be selected.
