I am quite computer illiterate, but I have been using this laser without issue on Lightburn for over a year. Suddenly a couple weeks ago, it seemed to “forget” where home is. I do have limit switches on the front left of the machine and the laser head. Now when I start the machine it tries to home in the left rear where there is no limit switch and just makes a grinding noise against the track for a solid minute. My better half tried going in and changing settings after this started and I have no idea what he changed or how to get this back to functioning properly. Can anyone explain in a “for dummies” fashion what I am missing?
The first question is what changed right before it started malfunctioning?
We can try to help you get the settings back to where they should be. Is the only symptom that it’s trying to home to the wrong location? If youdo to the move window do the arrow keys cause the laser head to move in the correct direction for all 4 directions?
Please answer my questions as well as go to the console window and type $$ then hit enter. Copy and paste all the output in the console window here.
Yes, everything jogs in the direction I tell it to.

You list your laser as Sculpfun S30 in your profile. Which variant, Pro, Max or Ultra? Is this an extended bed or standard? Your work area size doesn’t seem correct for either one. What is the manufacturer listed work area for your machine?
Second, just verifying that it is going to left rear on homing where it should be going to left front, correct?
I have the s30 pro max with the y-axis expansion per the order information, it lists the work area as 935x400mm after the expansion install- I’d like to note that I did the expansion last October and never had a problem until now. It is going to the left rear when facing the machine but the homing position should be the left front
Here’s what I want you to do then. Save the output from the Console window in a text file before making any changes, that way it’s easy to go back if needed. Once that is done, in the console enter $23=3, try homing and report back.
I apologize but how do I save the output from the console window?
Select it and copy like you did for the post above, then create a new text document in notepad or other word processor and save it.
Actually, since it’s in the post above, you could always come back here and copy from the forum if need be.
That fixed it, Thank you! Are there any other settings I should try to change to make this work optimally? I know absolutely nothing about coding but I do make usually 10+ projects a week
The only other thing that jumped out was the work area size. It is shown as 410 x 890 and you say it’s suppose to be 400 x 935 that oversize on the X axis can allow for hitting that rail and your Y axis will not be able to use the full bed.
Enter $130=400 then $131=935 that should correct your work area.
thank you very much! This was my first ask on the forum and you made it a great experience!
Glad I could help.
