I have a new ACMER P2 33 Watt laser and have been using it to cut and etch(engrave) RC Plane Parts. When I went to start cutting a new kit this am, the laser moves to make the cut but the laser does not come on. I tried a file I cut yesterday and still no laser to cut. Also, I did an engrave and oddly enough that works just fine. I am using the latest software for Lightburn 1.7.08 and Windows 11 Home and the laser is connected via USB. Really puzzled on what is happening. Thanks for your help!
There is no separate command for engrave and cut. Speed, power, and number of passes is it. Check those settings.
You can use this table as a starting point: material setting – ACMER
I agree to a point. By using layers you set a layer to engrave-Fill (speed, power and passes) or cut-Line (speed, power and passes). I have checked and double checked the settings for the various layers and the laser will not cut, the best I am able to get is a very faint line on top. that is speed-600, power-100% and 2 passes. That should easily cut the lite ply per my material testing with the laser a week ago.
I appreciate the response and providing the link for the 48 watt P2 material settings. I have been doing material tests when I first got the laser and also use the card that came with the 33watt laser. Thanks again.
You can Line engrave by not cranking up the power or passes.
Using your standard values:
Make a small square, Fill, on one Layer.
Make a small circle, Cut, on another layer.
Save the Lightburn file and upload it here for analysis.
In the meantime, make sure the S-value max matches the $30 GRBL parameter.
Check to be sure the LightBurn Machine units
are set to mm/min, rather than mm/s:
If the machine is attempting to run 60× faster than it should, it’ll never cut anything.
ednisley: YOU ARE A STAR. That is what was wrong. I did not make sure that I switched the LB to mm/min. Now it cuts like a champ. I am one happy person thanks to you.
I genuinely appreciate everyones help and Mike I learned more about engraving. Terrific!
