I got my longer ray5 10w laser which should be powerful, but when I am trying to cut the 3mm basswood with material test tool it cannot even make a single clean cut through, the power seems limited, but when I checked the s value it is listed 1000, I am not sure which part is the problem or any solution for this, I believe it need to break the limitation to reach 100% power for my laser engraver. By the way do I need to do the firmware update in order to get the full power in cut with lightburn?
If S Value Max is set correctly you only really have two controls that affect burn performance: speed and power.
Make sure focus is good. After that, if you want more of a burn, then increase power or reduce speed. If you are already using 100% power then progressively reduce speed until you achieve the burn that you want.
Unless you have firmware bug an upgrade is not likely to affect power.
I saw many videos that are able to cut in 1 pass but I tried and it cut 3 mm basswood in 100% power 15mm/s with 7-8 passes, not sure which part is the problem
This is likely way too fast. Continue to decrease speed. You should likely be between 100-300 mm/min range. You’re at least 3x that speed.
Also note that most diode laser speed settings are represented in mm/min rather than mm/s as you’ve shown. If you’re directly comparing speed values assuming mm/s that might be one of the issues.
Can you advice me how to change that from mm/s to mm/min? it showed me the mm/s after I connected the laser with lightburn
That’s an option in Edit->Settings.
thank you so much just changed and do a cutting test, problem solved thank you so much!
