Out of curiosity, your profile shows you also have a C02. Does the start button for that device exist?
I think so too, because when I choose to disable the start button/function, only this one is hidden here, - that is also the point of this option. So the feature works properly this way, with me.
I think that was worth trying first. Let’s go more dramatic.
- Go to File->Bundles->Export Bundle and export everything as backup
- Then go to File->Preferences->Open Prefs Folder. Close LightBurn, then remove absolutely everything from that folder.
- You should be able to simply restart LightBurn at that point but you will need to setup your device again. I’d suggest first trying to setup a new device to see if the Start button returns. If all goes well, you could try importing items back from the backup
@TravisGood
Does seem that something in your settings got corrupted; maybe if you changed a CO2 profile into a GRBL (which is possible)
I would follow @berainlb suggestion, as it will give you a “just installed” state on LigthBurn.

Regretably I still have no Start button.
Another way:
Open Prefs folder:
.
Rename prefs.ini and prefs.ini.old to xxx.error.
Open folder and copy/paste (don´t drag over) an older xxx.lbprefs ( like a month older)file from when it worked to the prefs Directory.
.
Make 2 copies of xxx.prefs rename to prefs.ini and prefs.ini.old .
Start Lightburn and Load a more recent .prefs file.
Regrettably I had already backed-up the preferences and upon restoring them I didn’t find a history of previous preference files, just the latest … I’ll dig a pair out from another computer’s install and try again what you suggest.
@parsec, what I’m about to describe may be the consequence of bringing Windows install prefs.ini and prefs.ini.old into a Mac but regardless, here goes …
When I first load Lightburn after replacing the prefs files I get this screen with the Start button.
The first time I choose a listed device and then click either OK or Unlink Library I get the following screen.
At this point the Start button disappears.
Any subsequent time I choose the Device
I simply get the Laser window sans Start.
Maybe someone with a Mac could share a prefs.ini or a lbprefs file.
But do the same renaming scheme.
I’d like to confirm the state:
- LightBurn was off
- You deleted all contents of Prefs folder
- You’ve reinstalled LightBurn.
- You started LightBurn
- You created a new device
- There is no Start button
Is this correct?
Is the only difference here that you’re loading a prefs file from a Windows install previously?
Certainly looks to be referencing a windows path; Can you share that specific prefs.ini file? All the paths in the prefs.ini will be wrong; the following settings would be affected
ArtLibraries
LastCamera
LastDevLibraryPath
LastArtLibraryPath
LastExportPath
LastImportPath
LastProjectPath
MaterialLibraries
I’d assume that blanking each of those in the prefs.ini would be ok/required to un-windows your prefs file. MaterialLibraries and Art Libraries would need to be re-set.
I figured the Windows-to-Mac swapping might affect things but it’s what I had at my disposal. Attached is the prefs.ini which I brought over to try and help diagnose this missing Start button problem.
prefs.ini.txt (53.5 KB)
I’ll give it a shot … what do I have to lose!?
SHXPath too; basically anywhere you see "C:" should be removed, or set to a valid mac path (e.g. “/home//path/to/file”)
I removed all references to DOS directories.
The prompts disappeared but
Start didn’t appear.
Shot in the dark; but a lot of translations were updated; try switching languages to something else and back.
one more thing; set and unset require frame before start; I can see that as being related to the logic controlling the display of the start button; your prefs.ini doesn’t have it at all.
No effect on restoring the Start button.
Where is this toggled? I don’t see it in Settings.
