I bought this “5MP USB Camera Module OV5648 Sensor with Auto Focusing for Windows Linux Systems” from E-bay for $32.75 . It seed to be very similar what lightburn sells for a lot less, It has autofocus. It was not soo easy to set but now it works perfectly.
Computer Win10 latest Lightburn for Ruida controller, DSP version.
It has 71 degree so it is not fish-eye makes it more easier to adjust, I can set the material in about 1mm …quite precise…
The mount is only double side tape, I will make a better solution soon myself
So just some info about a good camera solution (ah the USB cable was not long enough of course I needed an extension cord…)
Yep…very nice. I did not found a really good 8Mpixel version for my 50x40cm 5Mpixel is probably enough. As the mount goes I don’t have a 3D printer I will cut out with laser
Vectorized SVG is attached drawn In Illustrator. (PDF is not allowed) Both versions (thinner and wider mount) is in the same PDF. Screw diameter is 5mm can be adjusted to whatever you have. Can be sticked together with cyanoid fast glue or whatever…
Material must be 3mm I used HDF but can be plywood or anything. Please if you use it post a picture!!!
I just designed it last evening, it was OK on the second try :-), and it seems to be working ever since.
Of course I had to readjust the lens and the alignment.
Thanks good idea… but these are 2D files so SVG is Ok since it is a vector format like PDF, essentially works the same. And Adobe Illustrator can export it and also open it so no problem, probably other vector apps as well…
How many frames per second is the live feed. I bought a similar camera from Banggood and the live feed was about 1-frames per second (very slow). Over all the camera worked well, but I really like a good live feed to see what the laser is doing and when I set up pieces to be engraved. I replaced it with a USB web cam. It was also a cheaper alternative to the Lightburn cam.
Hi Janos! clarity of the picture is a joke… I tried my 1080x720 oldest tiny cam and my latest 3264 x 2448 action cam, there’s no difference in background image quality. The cams do their job and I can even spot exactly a point on my grid. Don’t get fooled with “specifications”. Use what you already have first. I forgot to mention that some action cams need batteries to be charged from time to time. Then your “solution” sounds more interesting regarding that point.
Lightburn fish-eye adjustment is awesome though. It’s very simple to operate and it gets the job done. I think it’s one among others achievement of the software. People should not worry about fish-eye at all. My oldest tiny cam has a tremendous fish-eye but Lightburn makes it completely disappear. I love this software.
I don’t think that 5Mpixel or 1 Mpixel would be the same, that is just impossible. Anyway it was a very cheap cam mush cheaper than Lightburn 's own cam…and about the same… but… whatever if Full HD is enough for you. It was $25 you cannot go wrong with that price…
Resolution is dependent on your software and display (not necessarily your camera). Many displays are only 1080 and definitely less than 4K, so getting an 8K camera might be overkill which goes to waste in terms of cost. The only advantage of a higher Mpix camera is if you digitally zoom in on details, and depending on your software (LightBurn in this case), that may be derived from the original capture of the software and not using any additional resolution the camera has to offer (can’t say this is the case for LightBurn).
Comparing a 5 Mpix and 1 Mpix camera would show some differences, but anything beyond the capability of the software and display would be of lessening difference.
OK… but with LB you make a picture of your already cutted material and go closer of course and than you can put your tiny cutout stuff into the already cutted plywood and place it on the right spot… you just NEED some resolution for it because you go close really close, you blow up the picture. If you want to be precise you need that 5Mpixel or even more (in this case more IS better) soooo I just don’t understand the argument…sure I want to keep it cool… sorry If I was rude … but you read that crazy post don’t you??? People are strange sometimes… but no problem
