Yep, electric. I put a set of brushes in the motor for her about a decade ago, and the rubber drive roller on the motor wore out and I repaired it, but mom but a lot of miles on it over nearly 7 decades. 
Just as a laser related side note, my wife made a bunch of face masks a couple of weeks ago and the laser cuts fabric really nicely.
