I really have no idea how to sort this. I installed an air assist and it made a massive difference and was brilliant I started to have issues cutting through the sheets of wood I had been using. Thinking I needed to clean I took everything apart and notice there was a hole/burn mark in the o ring so I replaced this. I put everything back together and now although the laser turns on it doesn’t actually do any cutting or engraving what so ever no marks at all. So disappointed as I was doing something for a children’s charity in a few weeks time and wanted to produce enough to sell. I have attached a picture of my lens as I don’t know if the o ring has damaged it it also looks foggy but would this stop all mechanics of the laser itself? I really have no idea where to go from here! Should note that I have a sculpfun s9 and had it for 6 weeks.
Hello Nikola
I had the same thing last year with my Sculpfun S9. It is a fault in the construction and I have also informed Sculpfun of this and made them a proposal to replace the green O ring with a wider ring. What is the case is that if the ring is not placed correctly, the nozzle will be crooked, so that the laser beam does not come out but hits the inside of the nozzle and reflects upwards, damaging your O ring and also the lens. Now that I read this case of yours, I can only draw one conclusion and that is that Sculpfun has done nothing with my comments and is still using the same O rings. I would definitely make a comment about that to sculpfun if I were you.
Yours sincerely

Anything involving optics is really a case to get manufacturer help.
The tools and precision to replace that yourself is not insignificant
Warranty - if still available - should be triggered.

@misken is our Sculpfun resident Master Chief Specialist maybe he can give some other input.
I agree, the design is not optimal. But I don’t think anything will be changed here because the S9 is a very outdated model, it’s one of the oldest models they sell and there are more than four new series that have followed since.
The air assist nozzle for the S9 was produced as a reaction to the desire by the community to get a professional nozzle instead of the 3d-printed ones. But now they even run out of parts (like the mainboard) and include parts of newer series into the S9 packages. I don’t think they will touch the design anymore. It’s more likely that they completely stop selling the S9.
The newer models starting with S10 have a very different nozzle design (though the o-ring still can be considered as the weakest point here).
The lens is broken. You need a new one. As sad as this is in your situation, this is clearly a user error that is not to blame on Sculpfun. Instructions are clear and videos are available.
Since Sculpfun user support is very kind, you might get a new one if you contact them and explain the situation. Though this might take a few weeks for the new lenses to arrive.
You need to consider that you can’t expect a professional machine at a price tag of $200. Those machines are toys, they require a lot of time to get and keep them running, you should pile up nearly every mechanical part as spare parts. Such lasers can break down any minute and, more important, also catch fire within seconds.
You need to invest many hours to be prepared for most hiccups you can experience. If you depend on deadlines, you need at least two identical machines to have one running all the time. It’s a different story if you buy a $5000 laser, obviously.
Thankyou I contacted sculpfun to see if they can help but probably likely I will have to change the lens to be honest I am hoping that this is the issue that has stopped the machine from working and that I don’t have more problems!
Hi
Thankyou for taking the time to reply.
Not blaming sculpfun but I had watched lots of videos I guess one of those things that despite best efforts when you are new to things they don’t always go to plan. I don’t normally work to deadlines just wanted to do something for the children of Gaza and have a small stall at a market for one day to generate some money.
I have never done any lasering before so I would have never spent more money maybe if I get into it I will look at another machine. All in all a big learning curve. Thankyou for your information.
Nicola you dont have to buy new machine, if like me you have trouble with 5.5 watt buy new sculpfun S10 module that just bolts onto your S9 frame…
Have not had any trouble since I done that easier to clean the lens and I did have a sculpfun air pump that also helps for cutting but not necessary…
Cheers Merlin…
Just wanted to thank you. I managed to get a new lens fairly quickly and it sorted the issue. I kept burning through the o ring so sculpfun said it wasn’t actually needed so have been running without it and no issues so far. Had a good weeks worth of play!
Just wanted to Thankyou managed to get a new lens and running well now. Kept burning through the o ring so sculpfun said not to use it, might wear the lens down quicker but it has been good for the last week.
Thankyou I am considering it!
