New library material unlinks from layer(s) when using two PCs and dropbox shared files

Using 1.4.03 on 2 PCs linked to common files and material library via dropbox. If I make a change to a design and link it to a new library material on one PC, save job and lib and let dropbox sync, then on my second (design) PC I let the sync update then open LB and load that same job and lib (from dropbox) then library material has become unlinked for the new layer(s). The new material is there in the lib but not linked. Happens both ways around too (PC I mean). Have to really watch that, as its not totally obvious what settings it picks for the now unlinked layer(s). They are certainly NOT the ones for the new material.

Have you tested this without the second PC in the picture?

  1. Save file on first PC
  2. Allow dropbox sync to occur
  3. Reopen file on first PC

or possibly:

  1. Save file on first PC
  2. Allow dropbox sync to occur on second PC
  3. Reopen file on first PC

I suspect the second PC may be a red herring and the issue is occurring earlier in the process.

I tried this on the design PC

  1. Make a new design, link it to existing material A
  2. Save, close, re-open
  3. Still linked

then

  1. Same design but make new material B and link that instead
  2. Save, close, re-open
  3. Still linked

Is the path to your Dropbox folder the same on both machines?

I can’t 100% confim right now but i’ll bet that’s a no because the user names are different and hence the first part of the path will differ

Ok, I don’t know why that would cause what you’re experiencing but it was the first thing that came to mind. I also share all my material and art libraries between two PCs but I use a NAS with the same drive letter on both machines assigned to the same network path.

There are known issues with storing LightBurn files (including library files) on cloud drives so it might not be the best option anyway. However, you might like to try mapping a drive letter to your Dropbox folder. If you do this on both machines (and use the same letter) that would at least eliminate the path discrepancy from the equation.

Seems syncing via Dropbox causes library material unlinking between PCs in LightBurn. Check sync timing & manual relinking to prevent mismatched settings on layers.
