Hello LightBurn I’m back, been laid up but back to near normal as normal as can be for a 74 year old with problems…
Anyway I have purcahsed another laser from Sculpfun a S30 Pro Max but unlike the S9 I got a few years back this one didn’t work straight from the box (after putting it together).
The Homing was great from the start, but when I tried to Frame it moved to postion and stopped and the laser came on and stayed on until I stopped it…
Moving in any direction does not work from the move window…
I have check all belts nuts and bolts and the wiring all seem ok to me…any suggestions wood be of help…
Hoping this is of use to some of the bright sparks…

ok

ALARM:3
Reset while in motion. Grbl cannot guarantee position. Lost steps are likely. Re-homing is highly recommended.
ok
Grbl 1.1h [‘$’ for help]
[MSG:‘$H’|‘$X’ to unlock]
The machine came on and started with GRBL in the Devices window changed to S30 rehomed ok Framed ok but did not frame just stopped no laser this time…
Getting Error 8
Homing
error:8
Grbl ‘$’ command cannot be used unless Grbl is IDLE. Ensures smooth operation during a job.
Any help please… Away until Monday… but will check in on my wee phone…
I have the 10w S30, so it is basically the same. Mine was instant-ready after a few setting adjustments. Based on all the stuff you reported, I would go back and recheck all the connections. Also make sure you do not have the limit switches switched somewhere.
$130=380.000 (X Max Travel)
$131=385.000 (Y Max Travel)
These are for keeping the 10w laser module from hitting the frame. Default settings are for the 5w module. Your 20w module is huge, so your numbers should be even smaller (I have no idea how much smaller).
Turn off $21. You do not have 4 limit switches. You only have 2 of them.
Alarm 3 could be a USB connection or power supply issue, like a loose connector somewhere.
Try entering $H in the Console window to see if it will home properly (after checking all the connections).
When finished, please report back how it went.
And congratulations on the S30 machine. You will come to love it. I bought 2 more Sculpfun’s because of mine (more power one and a portable).
Hi Mike thanks for the reply…
Had the homing going right but this afternoon the homing is all up the hell…
Now the homing tries to home the Busy window bar is at 100% and the the X axis motor sounds like it is trying to move but not…
No error msgs…
My engraving size is 360 x 370 so I change the $ commands to that…
To turn of a $ command I just typed in $25= 0.0 then press Enter…
Hope that helps I been all over the nuts and bolts and screws the belts and all look OK…
How to tell if something is wrong with the Homing Switches I don’t know…
I have changed the blue USB cable with the one that work on the S9 but know change as for the power cable I have nothing from the Laser to power Brick but just had a thought that I may have some cables from the other end of the Brick to the computer, will have a look tomorrow…
Evening anyone… Back again still no workie… Plugged the power brick into another wall socket but same supply line…
When I switch on the laser the Y axis starts to make a low clicking sound and will not home…
The busy Blue signal under the console window comes on and stays there until I use the Home button on the Move window and after that if I click anywhere on the screen the Home Busy signal comes on again…
I can’t supply a console c0se nothing is working there either..
I’m wondering (curious) if this is a power problem, I have no other 24v power brick to try without buying another one and waiting two weeks for it…
I do have a 24v switching Power Adapter would that be ok to run a laser..
