New "workspace alignment" for camera's is sooooo BAD!

So out of the blue my alignment was off, not sure how since the camera was never bumped or moved… But I went to go and realign it in the software as I have for year and man… this new method is TRAAAASH.

Tried the automatic method and it acted like it worked, saw all 8 symbols. Go to burn some product and it was 4 inches off LOL.

Tried manually – same issue.

This is bad, real bad. How did you screw a perfectly SIMPLE process up so effing terribly. Now I have a production stoppage and I am going to have to install the old version and never upgrade because that is just stupid that you would screw this up that bad, unfreaking real.

After retrying like 4 times it appears to almost work – except everything I burn despite the way it is shown in the program is further left so everything is out of alignment which is ruining everything. So annoyed, why did you break a PERFFECTY EASY thing with this trash… So annoyed, guess I’ll just install the old version, eff this.

There are a lot of people using cameras with the current version. Reinstall a previous version (no need to uninstall anything) so you can get production out.

In the meantime, install the latest in a separate folder, like C:\Lightburn-Test\, and continue trying to sort it out. From what I have read, it appears it is a procedural (yeah, we all hate new except for cars) problem, so go at it very, very slow. From what else I read, it is much better, like improved accuracy, than the old method.

Appreciate the reply but new versions are great when they work – this was something nobody asked for. The original method of alignment was fine – sure the calibration of a new camera sucks but once you had it in – totally fine. They could have at least left the old method intact… I tried the manual method and it didn’t work either, made it burn 4 inches up on the Y axis… Stupid…

I’ve gone through the paces multiple times today and finally just adjusted my graphics multiple mm to the right of the X axis just to compensate… fun. No idea why everything burns to the left of the X axis vs how it shows on the screen.

The new way is trash and if it worked fine before why do I need to waste my time beta testing their garbage. Is what it is, I’ll go back to using 1.9X and never renew my license, eff’em. Don’t break stuff that didn’t need to be broken or changed.

  1. The latest version pre-2.0.0 is v1.7.05, and there is no need to uninstall anything first.
  2. The Lightburn license is perpetual. Only upgrades are a cost after a year. If what you have now continues to work for you, then upgrading does not need to be considered at this time. Upgrades bring new features and processes, but it also brings changes forced by changes in technology.
  3. In my opinion, WinXP was perfectly good. For its time, that is.

If your change to v2.0.01 was included in your upgrades, then you lose nothing by rolling back to a previous version, which was likely also an upgrade.

Went back to 2.0.05 and did the old manual method, worked like a champ. Screw this new version, total junk.

As long as you are back in business.

New release today, v2.1.02. You might try that as a separate folder install. That way production is not impacted.

I agree. I thought I better do a test engrave and it was off to the left and down a couple inches! Plus I can’t get my contrast and brightness correct, looks just crappy and it doesn’t match the work area picture either.

Yup, absolute trash. Im not here to beta test their product. Why mess with stuff that works. Add it as an option - sure, but don’t take away something that worked 100% perfectly fine. Idiot level move by the devs.

Do you use a “Pointer Offset” value with your laser?

This new method was tested a lot internally and by users of the release candidates. It might not be working properly for you, but it has absolutely been tested to work by many. If we can figure out what’s different about your setup, we can likely fix it.

Are you still using the Falcon (from your profile)? There have been a few issues with the firmware compatibility of that specific laser.

Maybe later, not here to waste my time beta testing their products.

No offset, nothing fancy at all. Basic overhead camera 5mp, Minition brand, not some cheap junk arduino 3d printed garbage. Worked 10000% fine since the day I got it and calibrated it with LightBurn years ago. Only after this “new” version came out did it all go to hell.

What laser are you using?

I agree. I would have ruined an extremely large piece that I have been working on for a year and there would have been no way to fix it. I like some of the new updates but it would be great if we could choose what individual parts of the updates to install.

Creality Falcon2

Screwing with camera setting is a bold move when things work perfectly fine. I could totally see why adding the auto-feature for newbies or non-techies but to completely lift and shift to a whole new platform without knowing the actual outcome for your user base which consists of probably 10’s of thousands of device variations. If it’s not broke, don’t fix it.

I don’t even know why today it suddenly needed to be re-aligned, happens occasionally every month or so. Probably from me bumping it, maybe the dog or cat, IDK. Maybe we had an earthquake lol.

But I hadn’t had to re-align the camera since the settings were “converted” to the new format with 2.0 or w/e. But yeah this new version doesn’t work for my setup. Went back to 2.05.00 and did the old manual method with the circles/crosshairs and numbers and it works perfectly fine again.

I would agree with you, but what we had before only worked for a subset of our users. Many had a great deal of difficulty getting the old system to calibrate, found it generally confusing, and it was fussy. The new system has been overall better, and we’ve found very few examples of it failing outright so far - none of them in our own testing, and any issues encountered with the release candidates were fixed as well.

Can you click Help > Generate Support Data and send that to Support@lightburnsoftware.com along with a link to this thread? It could help the devs who wrote the feature figure out why it’s not working for you.

Done, is it supposed to be just a bunch of gibberish numbers and letters? Said it copied it to my clipboard and I pasted it to the email lol, kinda odd.

Yes, it’s compressed and not meant to be readable except by a machine.
