I am brand new to laser engraving and my Roly MK2 is due to arrive within the next two weeks. I do have experience with my Shapeoko CNC machine.
I have been drag engraving black ceramic tile with a carbide bit with my CNC with good results but the bits are expensive and don’t last very long.
Will my diode laser work on gloss black ceramic tile? I checked the forum and could only find discussions on white tile.

Most of these processes use something like the Norton Tile Method (NTM) and produce black marks.
There are also some coatings that can be used.
Visible led lasers, usually don’t mark porcelain tiles as the coating is basically glass.
Here’s a link that shows some work.

I have successfully cut (etched) through dark green glaze on standard small tiles with my 10W diode to expose the white base material

How deep is the etching? I am hoping to fill it with color like Rub 'N Buff. On my CNC, I engrave to .015".

For the tile I used, I was getting about 1.5mm with 2 passes (10W diode @80%, 5mm/sec)
