Setup new machine last night and did a test burn worked great. This morning tried to start a project and when start is pressed get the following from light burn (there was a problem sending data to the laser. The machine may be busy or paused) I have shut down both the machine and computer and rebooted everything numerous times and still get the same message. As far as I know there are no other projects running on either machine help.

Can you confirm that you have actually turned the laser on? It may not be obvious because the Ortur can get enough voltage from the USB port to power the control board but it won’t be enough to run the laser or steppers.
When you turn the laser on, it will auto-home and you should see the laser head move to the front left corner. When LightBurn connects it will likely auto-home again.
