No USB connection after major Storm in Area

We had a major storm in our area yesterday that took out the PC that my MOnport laser was connect to. I discovered this today when I went to start working on a few projects. I connected the USB cable from the laser port directly to my laptop and can not get it to find the laser. I tried a different USB cord in hopes that it was the cable but had no luck. Any ideas on what else I should try?

Try isolating the issue:

  1. Check if USB on PC is working correctly by connecting a different USB device like a flash drive. Does it work correctly? If not, try a different port. If that works, try connecting that to laser.
  2. If you have another computer, try connecting that to laser. Are you able to connect?

If the issue is on the controller side, try ethernet if that’s available.

Here is what I have tried.

All USB ports on computer, None of them register a connection.
Tried a different connection ( printer ) in all ports and computer registers connection.
Tried connecting USB directly to controller - No connection
Tried Ethernet directly to computer - No connection

Have a feeling the surge took out something in the controller .

Unless you know how to configure a static port on your machine, it’s likely that you won’t get it to work over Ethernet using a direct connect. I’ve done this, so it’s possible, but you have to be up on how TCP/IP works. It actually talks via UDP.. :man_shrugging:

Might try connecting to the Ethernet of the Ruida and plugging it into your lans router. You will have to use the control panel to figure out it’s IP, which is static.

Problem with Lightening, is you never know where it will go, other than the least inductive path.

If it turns out to be the controller and you’re in the USA message me. I have a never installed 6445 if you’re interested.

Sounds like the computer side is fine. Do you have another computer to confirm issue with controller?

When you connect ethernet, do you see LED indicators at the plug that show network activity? You should see this on both the computer and controller side.

While you’re at it, make sure that the issue is not on the extension from controller to outside of laser. You can try connecting directly to controller to bypass the extension.

The Ruida has a LINK and ACT led, the LINK shows it’s electrically connected (not talking) the ACT led should light up with a data flow.

This is the back of the connector – RJ45

I concur, even a nearby strike can do serious damage, even if it was not connected to anything.

This exact situation happened to my aunts laser and I’m helping figure it out. I have replaced the controller but it is a slightly different Ruida controller model, from 6442G to 6442S. Not sure what the deal is but can’t get it to connect to lightburn with USB. You can load programs on manually through the udisk option though.

Can you get the USB port to connect with something else. Could be the port in the PC got fried.
