Node editing - node turns into arrow?

I’m sure this is something blindingly obvious, but I can NOT figure out how to edit nodes. I’ve watched multiple videos, and my software isn’t behaving the same way that they show. For example, I use the line tool to draw a triangle, snap the last line to close. Select the triangle and click the node edit button. Click on a node to drag it, but it turns into a blue arrow. Click it again and it turns back into an unmoveable node, and the blue arrow appears at the other end of the line. I understand the CTRL and Shift functions (although I don’t know why the direction of the lines movement is important yet) but obviously I’m missing something. Can someone provide that moment of insight? Thanks!

Can you take a screenshot of what you’re seeing? Not clear from the description.

Appreciate the offer! I just figured it out. The node tool near the top of the left-hand tool bar is not the same as what appears to be the node tool at the bottom of the left-hand tool bar. That one is a cut direction tool (hence the arrows).

It works perfectly when I select the correct tool. Back to work
