Not cutting all material

Never used a laser before, I’m trying to make lamacoids with a K40+, but I can’t seem to get the settings dialed in. It leaves some of the material behind… Been trying for 2 days now!

The good looking one is my sample, that what I want it to look like. I have the manual power dial set to about 50%.

Lamacoid settings

Are you set to OFFSET fill? It looks like it from the photo. Set to FILL mode and try again.

I will, as I always do with new materials, do a material test. Draw small squares with different parameters, like power speed and line spacing (if you don’t have enough material) on the existing signs. Or do a complete material test that is integrated into LB.
With the material you show, I will start with much less power and more decent speed.

Hi Matt, I used to do hundreds of lamacoids for a customer that I had. He would send me a Excel spreadsheet that I would import into AutoCad, save as .dxf and then import it for engraving/cutting.

The top layer of the lamacoid is very thin (.003"). You need to take very little off. At the time, I was using a CO2 60 watt machine and my settings were approximately 800mm/s and power was around 35%.

I think you are going a little too slow. Try increasing the speed and power and see if your results are and better.

Also, I used WD40 to clean the lamacoid. Worked amazing.

Hey Tim,

Thanks for the tip, we assumed that we were going too fast and that’s why it was missing bits. The max speed on K40+ is 300 mm/s so I changed it to that and put power to 22.5%. We were originally testing on the fill setting, but because we were going too slow it was burning passed the edge and giving us wobbly letters.

Final settings were: 1 pass, 300 mm/s, 0.03 mm interval, 22.5% power on Fill
