Not cutting through 4mm oak vaneer with s9

Hi

I had a really good day yesterday cutting some very simple decorations for friends I was pleased because I managed to cut through 4mm oak vaneer (300, 85%) that I hadn’t been able to do before as now I have installed an air assist on my s9. However this morning when I tried to run it again it just won’t cut (I removed nozzle and I gave it a good clean last night) I have used the same wood sheet but even after 15 passes it won’t cut. Nothing else has changed I have fiddled about with the focus but that doesn’t seem to have done much. Am I missing something!?!

I should say that when it was going through it was with 6 passes

Based on what you’ve described, the only change is that you removed the lens for cleaning and replaced it. I’m not sure what laser you have, but have you replaced it correctly? Does it matter which way up it goes, or are there any spacers to mount it in the correct position?

Hi I didn’t take the lens itself out but just the nozzle I have had another look and the o ring actually has a burn cut through so I wonder if the ring had slipped and then caused the power to be less than what it normally is. I have a bigger problem now in that the laser turn on and pretends it is engraving and cutting but doing nothing so I need to post something else now to see what can be done :see_no_evil:. My lens does not loo clear I wonder if it has become damaged.

Nicola Hi from NZ…Have a S9 machine and love it …except for the laser module, 5.5 watt is only good for engraving not great for cutting…
I had to clean the lens every couple of hours to get any cutting done, but it does cut if you clean it that way…
I’m 73 now and pulling apart the laser every hour or so was getting a pain in the ***#@…
My solution was you bite the bullet and get a 10watt module for the S9 and has never been better, it has far better air supply…

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the S9 is not really capable of cutting great…
My 2 cents… Merlin…

Hi Thankyou hmmm I was thinking I may need to upgrade but I actually haven’t had the s9 for long so I might need to keep going with it for a month or so and clean more often before I buy another! Thanks
