Offset Fill Alignment

Hello all, first time posting, very new to the world of lasers. A friend asked if I could burn some coasters for him. He provided the images and there’s no issues there. He wanted some coasters with a circle around the image, and others without. I figured I would draw a circle, offset a smaller circle, and fill it using offset fill to save some time. For some reason, the passes did not line up.

I didn’t really want to play around with it too much because he only supplied 4 coasters, so didn’t really have extra material to waste. I decided to waste the time instead and use regular fill for the circle, which worked just fine. But I’d like to figure this out for next time.

I saw a few posts that mentioned belts? I can look on the Ortur site for info on that but I’m not really sure what I’m looking for with the hardware. While I check that out, anything that might be software related I can test?

Nope, it’s a mechanical problem … or two or three.

Although this guide was written for Sculpfun lasers, you’ll recognize most of the parts and going through the whole process will acquaint you with where the problems lie:

Basically, you’re looking for a slightly loose screw, a misaligned / not quite square frame, a slightly slack (or grossly overtightened) belt, or any of a number of slight misadjustments that will cause the machine to not go exactly where the controller directs it.
