Omtech 4 wheel rotary problems

I am trying to use my rotary device but everything keeps walking off it. Am I missing something? It walks from one end to the other. My rotary device on my xtool does not do this. But it does have a chuck. It is like its missing a holder or something.

It’s tough to tell, have no idea what it looks like… :face_with_spiral_eyes:

A link is always good so we know what we’re dealing with.

I have a PiBurn 3 wheeled (roller) type. It has hold downs and such to help keep the item from walking. Some people also put heavy socks full of sand or something to help keep them in traction with the wheel.

Most often the axes acceleration settings are too high for a rotary… there is little traction and it’s exacerbated by trying to move (accelerate) the mug too quickly…

Check the wheel alignment … if it’s off at all it will walk… what how tires work…

Good luck

I am talking about the 4 wheel rotary that Omtech sells. I will check the wheel alignment again. To make sure. This unit does not have a hold down. I think it really needs one. Should I just write it off and get another chuck unit for the Omtech? Like I have for my xtool. As I read up on it. Sounds like a lot of problems from people on this type unit. I have looked at hold downs I can add but don’t like drilling into it. Just looking to see if there are other options. Thanks

I don’t know which one you’re referencing… they seem to make a few… but I’m sure they are low cost compared to other units…

You could try just using the test button in the gui and see if you can identify where the problem is…

Not sure what to advise… it’s sounds, pretty clearly, like a mechanical issue…

You could see if OMTech has any suggestions…

This is mine, they discontinued it because of version 4… it has hold downs and other items that make it very functional… it’s also >$

Here is the model. I did not see any other version of this on their site.

Most of these designs require the mug ride against something, like the belt case to keep them on the machine… Any of these out of alignment will cause the mug to walk off…

I’ve see a few from OMTech… might just be various models I’ve seen…

I’d get it rolling back and forth and look at the mechanics… It’s got to be some sort of wheel alignment issue, maybe one is higher than the other…? I don’t know what all can go wrong but it has to be pretty limited.

That’s different than a traction issue where the mug stays aligned, just slips on the rollers.

Some of these issues are eliminated with a chuck type. I have one for my fiber, but haven’t used it… What you use is really dependent on size of object and how deep your pockets are.

I understand the roller type are a bit easier to set up but if it’s in a chuck it won’t walk off.

Good luck

Well there is nothing for it to ride against. I looked for that and anything I could put there to act as a stop on both ends. It does also have a traction problem. I went ahead and ordered a rotary hold down for it. I don’t like having to drill and mount something on it. It is new out of the box. But don’t see anyway to make it work. It seams to be built well. Just not thought out very well. I am going to go back to the shop tomorrow and recheck the wheel alignment one more time. Thanks for the ideas. If you think of anything else, let me know.
Thanks

Kevin, I may be speaking out of my butt, but here it goes.

Jack knows how dumb I am.

I had one of these. Mine was all jacked out of shape. Nothing was square, rollers weren’t level to each other, and on , and on, and on.

It’s not an OMtech product, just as mine wasn’t a Monport Product. Mine wouldn’t even run with my Monport until I had to rewire it to match everything up with Jack’s help. I sent it back to Monport. I got one from Jason.

I hear good things from PIburn too. Good luck with the one you have. Mine was crap.

Listen to Mr.Jack. He is wise.

Thanks for the heads up. I am waiting for the hold down to get here. I rechecked the wheels and everything looks right. I am thinking about getting a chuck model like the one I use with my Xtool. Is the one the Omtech offers a good one. Has anyone used it?

OK it is a lost cause. I got the holder in and the screws will hit the belt. There is one that uses the belt tighting screw but he must have stopped making it. Phillip and Jack thanks for trying to help. So I am open to new rotary ideas. Can anyone tell me what is a good one to use with Omtech? Open to any suggestions. I think I want to go with another chuck model like I have on the xtool. Again thanks for trying to help me get it working. If I have learned nothing else. It is when to stop before I lose it and do something stupid.

Just an update. I found another hold down on esty. It worked great. I even moved the wheels a little out of alignment and it still worked. He gos by BladesAndBeams. This thing works.

If you’ve had success with it, post the link for others

This should be the link. The instructions were very good also.
