OMTech 55w not engraving first part of image

Hello everyone. I’m having difficulty engraving a tumbler. I’ve engraved this image many times before without any problems. But whenever I start engraving an image on a tumbler the very first part of the image doesn’t engrave. I have a 55w OMTech with a Mansfield Customs rotary. Speed is set to 100mm/sec, power at 22.5% with a .060 interval. Is this a lens problem?

It’s engraved, but the scan lines are much closer together than you expect, because the rotary has developed a little backlash. You may be able to verify that assumption by peering closely through a magnifier.

The setscrew on the belt pulley attached to the motor shaft is the obvious suspect. It should be firmly tightened on the center of the shaft flat; you should try loosening it first, as it may be jammed on one side of the other of the flat.

While you’re looking, verify the belt pulleys on the drive wheels, because those could also be loose.

Everything appears to be tightened down, no slop in the belt to speak of. This is my first time using this rotary, before this I used an OMTech rotary. This is becoming more frustrating, I can’t even get a perfect circle to engrave.
