We have an OMtech Polar 350 laser engraver that I am trying to set up. I’ve got everything hooked up / configured according to the poor OMtech instructions and have it connected to LightBurn. LightBurn recognizes the machine and the machine moves the laser around when commanded (such as manual movement/jog or framing a print) however when I press “Start” on a design or try to do any configuring that requires the laser (such as camera alignment), nothing happens and the status LED on the machine turns red until I press the stop button.
I’ve got the interlock key inserted properly, all cables hooked up, I double check the mirrors for cleanliness/damage, and the tray switch is locked closed.
Is there some console that can show me what the error is?
The machine may be protected by a coolant sensor and/or a door protection. Ensure both are working properly. Don’t know if you can see your controller, but mine has led so the status of these can be seen.
Yes the console would tell you what caused the issue… Unfortunately on a Polar there is no console, so you get a red light… sorry…
It’s most likely the origin in the device settings, that are giving you issues.
The start from and job origin also may be an issue for you.
Generally set start from to absolute coordinates, job origin will be grayed out in this mode. The image will lase wherever the object is within your work area.
If you use current position in start from, it will then lase the object relative to the heads current position.
You cannot set a user origin without a console so it’s use cannot be implemented. There is no way to set that via software. I use this mode the most, too bad they didn’t include a console.
Hi @jkwilborn
Thank you for your thorough response.
The machine’s origin is top right - and the software is set accordingly.
I tried all the different origin settings I could and none of them made a difference.
Regarding your comment about coolant and door locks, the main drawer has the switch locked as that was my first suspect. The lid has magnet interlock switches so not much I can do about those. The coolant tank is about half full, it does seem to have some air in the system as it makes gurgling noises occasionally.
@jkwilborn you were correct about the door locks - not sure which one is faulty but I was able to find an override for the switches in the vendor settings, turned that on and am now able to print.
Could you see the led was off on the Ruida controller?
Glad you are operating…
Suggest you figure out what this is… You can over ride the both protections, ensure you know which one you canceling. Your coolant should be silent as far as I know. Fill it up…
thanks for the topic, I had the same issue of a micro switch not working … actually not a good sign for that price tag …
But I am writing because I had another issued which cost me another hour to figure out. My emergency stop button was accidently pressed during transport. The sympthom was that the “laser ready light” was red after power on. After I reset the switch manually (its the elevated position which ist the right one, not the depressed) and pressed the reset button right next to it for a few seconds, the laser started to work …
