So…another question that should be directed at the OMtech community…if only I was willing to join facebook. Hopefully somebody here can help.
Is it possible to use the stock camera that comes with the OMtech Polar in Lightburn using an ethernet connection? My laser is close to 15ft from my PC, so USB is not really feasible.
No. Only USB cameras are currently supported. And the OMTech Polar camera is not ethernet based. It’s theoretically possible you could use a USB to ethernet adapter and then a reverse ethernet to USB adapter but that’s unproven and certainly not supported.
Actually I don’t think that’s going to work. That’s a USB ethernet adapter. It’s for getting an ethernet connection on your computer through a USB port. It won’t extend a USB signal.
Also, note that you would need one side of this to be female.
I got a USB 3 active cable and connected it. Lightburn can see the shunccm camera,in the window for calibrating the lens, but when i select it the next button stays ghosted.
Have you gotten the camera to work under a more normal circumstance? Meaning a shorter cable. If not, then you’re dealing with multiple variables concurrently which may complicate troubleshooting.
One thing you may want to check is to see if the camera works in separate webcam software. If it does, then try toggling between Custom and Default Camera Capture Systems in Edit->Settings to see if that changes the behavior.

Oh man…no…I don’t think the camera is useful enough to go trying to move my PC closer!! I will try to see if I can find some web cam type thing to experiment with, but I honestly have never used a web cam
So that was easier than expected. Yes I do get a good image from webcam out of the Omtech Polar camera using the active cable
In order to complete lens calibration and camera alignment you’ll need to be physically close to the laser while operating the computer. If you can’t relocate the computer, can you relocate the laser at least temporarily?
Or do you have a laptop that you could use to accomplish this? Once done, you can transfer the calibration data to the other computer.
SO, I had the camera in my lightburn, set it all up, got great scores (all .012 or better). Then I did the alignment wih the 4 corners and tested it by burning a box the same size as a logo I use and then updating thee view and placing the logo inside the box using only the camers. It burned as close to perfect as I could ever expect. I did this multiple times in different areas of the bed and got absolutely awesome results. I was very happy.
WAS. I used it all day today and the camera made my job so much easier as I Knew I could trust that I was on the material like I wanted to be.
Now for no apparent reason it can’t find the camera. Neither can windows find the web cam which is actually the laser cam.
For some reason I think windows stopped communicating with the cam. I check in windowws settings and it is still enabled.
Time to go back to basics and remove variables. You may not like to hear it but check that the USB port on your computer, the usb cable, and the computer are not factors by trying to swap them out. You need to narrow down which component is not working.
One thing you could try to check is to see if the camera shows up in Device Manager.
