One or more shapes are crossing the edge of the machine workspace and will not be sent

Got this today when doing a Cut and Print for a passthrough job

Very frustrating; nothing outside the workspace; and was good to go in a test run b4 I did the Print and Cut process.

When doing part one, all was good, but part2 = Error and not like I can change scale or move things around.

Selected everything as I was close to boarders. Nothing I could see, even zoomed in. Tried closing paths and lots of other things. Checked Raster and Cut lines and the graphics.

Did not matter if I de selected items and chose a small item to preview; same error.

Finally in desperation I changed the bed size; and was able to get the main sections to Engrave (dither) and a fancy border to Fill. Prior to changing the workspace size, I could only get the graphics to preview. And I had to change by 50mm

But could still not run the outer cut. Will do it by hand.

Both halves were tested b4 starting the Cut and Print and gave no issues in Preview. I will check again, post the job being finished.

I get this sometimes when using Current Position for coordinates instead of Absolute. Frame it first to be sure and if you don’t crash into the extents, send it.

If part of the job involves a filled image or area, the overscan distance on either side may extend beyond the machine’s limits, in which case the error is the software’s way of protecting the machine from damage.

Use the Preview tool to get an idea of just how far the overscan extends beyond the edges of the pattern. You can control the distance in the Cut Settings editor, with a few percent seeming typical.

Reducing the overscan too much will cause over-burning along the edges of the patterns, because the laser will be decelerating to a stop rather than moving at the constant speed you expect.

The doc goes into more detail:

Very Interesting:

Selected areas All around the Workspace AND NOTHING. NOTE: Prior to Starting Print and Cut, I did not experience this issue. Had other re paths open etc when previewing a Fill section.

Tried a number of tricks - Still same result.

Zoomed out and as I had split the Job for a Passthrough Engrave and Cut. I had left the LH side 1/2 out to the Left and another Graphic etc off to the Right hand Side.

Deleted the Left Hand side Part 1 and the problem went away ? Did an un do and Problem returned. Zoomed in and selected lots of space - Nothing erroneous.

Deleted the L/H image and proceeded with the Print and Cut.

Outcomes:

A: Ensure Absolute Position selected and NO OFFSETS. (Need an Offset on/off light near the Start From. It always gets me with Rotary or Led Pointer (offset utilised) as I forget about Settings.

B: Ensure a CLEAN work space and no unnecessary files on the Screen.

C: Ensure that after aligning the targets etc. That you A: Record the X and Y values for the Targets; then home and Refocus and Preview b4 you select Start.

If the system freezes or looses connectivity. You can recover

Dont move the JOB. Select Print and Cut - Set to the recorded values and Jog to these Targets and follow Print and Cut.

Then Use the Mask function and finish the job.

There’s nothing to select, because the controller handles the overscan: it’s not part of your design.

That suggests the overscan for that section is beyond the left edge of the frame.

Look at the Preview of the job before starting it to see what’s going on.

Only Happens if Print and Cut was active, no Print and Cut Ie. load the saved file and all good.

I did stuff up Print and Scan the first time as when aligning the targets and doing spot burns to check alignment; I for got to do a Re Focus. As I was trying to solve the issue re shapes. So I went to do an auto focus and thought I had better ; reset the Print and Cut.

Re load the file and Preview appeared to work; The Print and Cut and Target alignment and Manual focus etc and Shapes issue when trying to preview the border. Internal image was fine. Made the Bed size approx. 50mm bigger and could not do the border but not the Cut. Removed the Work to the Left and All was Good.

Can only think there was some thing with the way Print and Cut (No Scaling ) was interacting.

The image to the Left was also a good 50mm away from the bed. And over scan was at 3%

Job was a Fail in the end: Timber had a bit of a bow in the middle and ment the lack of focus saw Shading on the job and significant and un recoverable.

Am always learning and every day is a new day of Frustration  But I do like the fact that Questions are responded to on the Forum… It has helped but got to also Aske the right Questions and use the right words. Its like talking 2 different languages but still English; Same Same but Different.

In the Laser window on the lower right, Cut Selected Graphics is turned off. That tells LightBurn to transfer everything to the laser, including everything around the workspace in the middle.

If you turn Cut Selected Graphics on, select only the design you want, and align it using Print and Cut so that it fits in the machine’s platform, then things will work the way you expect.

One of the first things I tried… Same error.

If I load the saved file and no Print and Cut process, all was good. Once I started the P and C - that is where I had problems.

At this stage I have moved on and will be some time b4 I need P and C again, but will take more care and review any issues.
