I use the art library a lot. I usually need to update few things in the graphic (daily task). Names are too long. What I use?
How can I get an overwrite feature?
I want to overwrite the file.
Now I can do like this.
Click to rename
highlight the filename, ctrl+c
cancel
Save new
ctrl+v
Overwrite the egsisting file? yes
In a daily process it is horribleš„
Iām confused by the workflow.
Can you explain in general how you use the art library? Also, what are you doing thatās prompting this process? Perhaps thereās an easier way to do this.
Typically a single art file library has many graphic elements added to it. Then you would use one of those graphic elements in a new project which could then be saved or not saved as you like. The library itself would only be changed if youāre modifying one of the entries in the file, adding to the library, or removing an entry from the library.
I save my recent projects. Easier to find the files, than in the browser.
Many times I have some optimization or small changes. After I want to save the file but not with a new name.
Eg. I have different wall clock designs, each version is in 2-3 different size. So in the art library there is a Clock folder, than the files: Name1_Size1, Name1_Size2, Name2_Size1ā¦etc
Oh wow. Interesting process. It sounds like you want to be able to directly edit designs within the art library.
This would almost shift the concept of the art library from a repository of designs to reference and more a design management platform. Basically youāre using it that way today and working around the naming process.
As far as I can tell I think youāre doing what you need to do for that workflow. Or rather, I canāt think of an alternative without a change in workflow. Perhaps a feature request is in order?
It will be worth putting in a feature request, here are some ideas for possible workarounds:
You could load the designs as libraries, if you donāt have too many? e.g.
That way you could leave the individual graphic names blank, which makes for easy overwriting.
In the background you could still organise the libraries into a āClockā folder, and even load them all at once:
You could represent revisions with plain numbersā¦
Or the type of the clock is the library and the size a simple numberā¦
