I have a customer that sent me a file in PDF Format. When i open it it doesn’t bring in any of the Fonts just the boxes for tags . Any help would be great . Thanks .
Do you have those “missing” fonts installed on your system?
Are you using IMPORT for the .pdf? Why not use a copy and paste?
LB doesn’t import text entities in PDF files. It will import text entities in SVG and DXF files.
“Sometimes” changing the extension from .pdf to .ai will work.
“Sometimes” just dragging the PDF file into LB’s work area instead of importing it will work.
FWIW, I import PDF file into LB and the text imports fine. What might be the problem is the customer has font files that is licensed by him and he didn’t/wasn’t allow(ed) the fonts to be embedded into the PDF.
Possible work around - screen capture from the .pdf to get an image. Paste the image and Trace to convert to vector object. You won’t be able to edit the text - but the issue of not getting the font to come across will be addressed.
If your “text” from a PDF imports fine, that is because whoever is creating it “outlines the font”, and turns it into shapes before exporting PDF. LB doesn’t import text entities from PDF files.
That may be true in some cases.
I have decades of PDF files that I have created for customers and never outlined the fonts in case I needed to edit something for the customer in the future.
I just quickly checked a small number of those files and most of them will open in LB and fonts that weren’t outlined and the text is editable. I stopped at first one that didn’t. I was able to open the PDF file in Inkscape, save the file as a SVG and opened it in LB. The text was as expected LB.
Maybe this has something to do with the graphic design software that I used to create the PDF files?
I also just learned that those Inkscape converted PDF to SVG files that the font is correct and text is editable in LB. In Inkscape I also saved the same file as a PDF and it opened fine in LB only if the text is outlined.
