Please help me finish my Dad's Christmas Gift! Massive Jitters using Xtool D1 Pro w/ Lightburn

Hi all. I am trying to engrave a golden mug for my dad’s Christmas gift with a personalized message. When I try to engrave the bottom, about 50-60% of the time, my Xtool D1 Pro starts jittering massively. I’ve only seen it happen when using the X/Y axis. I have not seen this happen with the rotary attachment.

It also jitters if I frame twice in quick succession without letting the fan stop first.

Xtool says to stop this:

  1. switch to wifi (not possible with Lightburn)

  2. check the stability of the machine. The machine is using all risers with 4x4s for additional height, but I have to do that to match the height of the cup. I’ve also seen this happen without the 4x4s, and sometimes even with the 4x4s it doesn’t happen. I don’t think it’s a mechanical issue. Sometimes it runs smooth, sometimes it jitters right off the start, sometimes it starts out smooth and then jitter.

  3. check computer specs - done. I’ve got a capable laptop, I don’t think it’s a performance isssue.

  4. check the processing speed. I’m running at 20mm/second. Very slow. Still happens.

  5. Don’t use bitmap for pictures. I’m not engraving a picture, so that’s not applicable.

Here’s a link to imgur with my device settings.

Here’s a link to google drive with a video of it happening, and the LBSET file.

Will post the results of the $$ command in a comment below.

Any ideas guys? I’m really trying to finish this mug before I fly out on Saturday.

My first thought is you’re doing an offset fill on a tiny machine with high acceleration or loose belts. A standard ‘fill’ mode layer will reduce the issue and probably give a better result.

Try switching to Fill mode and let us know if the shuddering remains.

It looks like your belts may also be a little loose.

I’ll check your settings vs the D1 defaults, let me look here…

Hard to find - I’d also be curious if you’ve updated the firmware lately

Your laser must be solidly attached to the table. Sitting on stacked Dixie cups is a sure request to have an unstable machine.

Offset fill is very demanding in the areas of frame stiffness, bench stability, belt tension and bolts being tightened.

Good advice. I got out some 3d printed feet inserts, screwed them into some longer 2x4s, changed to line mode, and the print went thru without a problem. Thank you!

Thanks for your help. The Xtool didn’t have any firmware updates, but I did update lightburn today.

I switched to offset fill and secured the feet with some 3d printed brackets and the print went thru perfectly.

Thanks for your help!
