Hello, I need your help. I have a Mira 7, and I’m trying to understand why the results vary so much from one padlock to another, and even on the same padlock. What could be causing the lines and such a big difference? Thank you for your insights!
The engraving line pattern is uniform when the laser head travels across the entire lock, but it changes between the letters:
That suggests the laser head isn’t making smooth passes across the entire lock.
Select:
Fill
layer mode andFill all shapes at once
Do the results change?
The irregular lines above and below the lettering suggest the Line Interval
may be smaller than the laser spot size. What is the Line Interval
for that layer?
Upload the *.lbrn2
file so we can see what’s happening.

Try with Flood and different Fill mode with almost the same result…
That’s what I’d expect, because the laser head is still doodling around forming each letter.
Do this:
- Change the
Line Interval
to 0.15 mm, which will be closer to the actual spot size - Turn off
Flood Fill
- Select
Fill all shapes at once
- Run the job again
Because the laser head will be moving much faster than before, you may need to increase the power setting for the layer as well. You should run a Material Test
on some scrap locks to find the proper speed and power for normal engraving.
I lost a lens trying to do stainless. A co2 isn’t really great for metals unless you use some type of coating you can lase.
