Please help up-vote a feature that allows us to designate the bed area during camera calibration

Calibrating cameras for large beds is tedious and painful. Please help by up-voting the following feature request that would allow us to designate the area within the image that is the bed + establish a different center.

Thank you!

I don’t understand this - Calibration (as in, the process of calibrating the lens curvature) doesn’t involve the machine at all - you don’t even need to mount the camera to the laser for camera lens calibration.

Are you having difficulty with lens calibration or camera alignment?

The trouble was the ‘Calibrate Camera Lens feature.’ My camera has a large view of more than just the bed area, and my understanding is that calibrating the camera lens ensures that only the bed is shown in the overlay. If I use a preexisting profile for the lens, will it not add all of the other areas the camera lens can see?

Your understanding is incorrect.

It has nothing to do with the laser - it’s only measuring the curvature on the lens, and only cares about the camera and the dot pattern in the camera image. The laser is not involved with calculating lens curvature at all.

When you get to the ‘Calibrate Camera Alignment’ process, then the laser comes into play. That process puts four markers on the bed at known locations and computes the mapping between them and the image locations where they’re tagged. Until you get to this point, you don’t need a laser at all.
