Please ideas. Laser stopped working suddenly. It only moves x axis while framing is normal, and more weird stuff

Hi, how is it going? Please help! Any ideas welcome.

Our rebranded RUIDA controller based laser suddenly stopped working after it finished a job. There was no apparent reason for it and now it’s behaving strangely. I’ll list here what seems interesting and observable.

  • Normally I run the laser using Lightburn on a Windows machine, literally pressing the start button.

  • As of now, while the frame button frames normally (!) the start button doesn’t do anything at all. It doesn’t throw an error, it doesn’t start moving the laser, it just doesn’t seem to do anything at all.

  • If I “send” the file to the laser cutter, then using the controller on the laser, pressing the green start/ pause button, I can start the job. However, no matter what I put into it as geometry, it only moves the x-axis. The y-axis does not move.

  • So, the laser does does fire and burn, but only on the x-axis. he chiller is running normally.

Any ideas what is going on? I’m running the latest Lightburn, latest Windows, but there was no software change or update between it working and not working.

Not usable.

Thank you!

Update: it works normally with RDworks (which i now installed for troubleshooting), which would suggest it’s a Lightburn issue?!

Okay, I guess I have a solution. I’m not 100% sure what happened, but it works now. So my best explanation is that installing RDWorks and reinstalling the USB driver from within the RDWorks installation package fixed it. Now, I had also tried to reinstall latest Lightburn prior and that did not help.

So, … eh?

Perhaps Rotary Mode is inadvertently enabled?
