Hello everyone, I have encountered a problem where my software will not recognize my laser. I am running a Sculpfun30 Ultra, with a Windows computer running windows 10. It was working for 6months and we had a bad motherboard on laser, Sculpfun sent out a new board and I have been unable to connect to it, in the console window it says : port failed to open - already in use?
I’ve tried upgrading to windows 11, back down to windows 10, but nothing I try seems to work, does anyone have a solution?? We have been down now for over 2 months!
Would be important first and foremost to verify if the motherboard is being detected at OS level.
Right click windows menu > Device manager
With Laser on, Plug your USB cable.
Does computer make the usb sound?
Do you see a new COM port appear? (take note of which)
Unplug usb to confirm the com port.
Now at Lightburn - in front of the devices button - are you using the same COM port?
Hi Gil, no it does make any USB connection sound. I have downloaded the CH341 driver about 10 times, and keep getting the sames results, it says the driver is downloaded, but in device manager, I have a explanation mark inside a triangle. I have also tried both windows10 and windows11, along with a different USB cable using the same laptop.
I have contacted the manufacturer, and they couldn’t figure it out either which is why they sent me out a 2nd motherboard. How could I get ahold of @misken?
Hi @AudioKev and @Julia
So, I understand that you plug in the laser, and it is not recognized in the Windows device manager?
Did you exchange the USB cable?
Did you try another PC/Laptop?
Did you try a different CH340 driver? (there is a special one listed here: Setting up the software - Diode Laser Wiki, that one is not targeted to your problem, but still might be worth a try)
Did you remove the old drivers completely before installing new ones?
To exclude any other cause (e.g. a shorted limit switch), you should remove all cables from the mainboard, except power and USB and check if it is still not recognized.
Hi Misken, i have tried different ports, cables and a different computer. I have even updated laptop to windows11 and back to windows10 all with the same result.
I have re-installed the CH340 driver multiple times, but when i tried to uninstall it says no device found.
I have not tried unplugging all the laser cables however, but i could try that with another motherboard that they sent me.
Try this first. Just to exclude the other hardware causing the failure. If you tested so many options at the PC side, it’s more likely on the other. But if you exchanged the board, it’s weird that it’s still broken, so the other hardware might be the cause.
