Hello everyone,

I’m having an issue with the placement in LightBurn, as if the calibration were incorrect. When I try to engrave using the camera, the image and the engraving area don’t match. It’s as if the laser wants to leave the work area, even bouncing off the boundaries.

What I’ve done so far:

I’ve installed the camera and calibrated it correctly, following all the recommended steps.
I set the alignment to the calibration pattern.
I’ve checked the work area and laser settings, but it keeps engraving to the wrong area.
When I place a design over the photo captured by the camera in LightBurn, the laser engraves in a completely different place. Has anyone had this issue or know how to fix it?

I would greatly appreciate any guidance. I’ve had the license for a month and still can’t figure it out.

Thanks in advance.

Are you using the Sculpfun S9 or a different laser?

Are you attempting to engrave a large image at a high speed?

In the Laser window, on the right side under two rows of buttons, have you selected ‘Absolute coordinates’?

Please open the Preview Window in LightBurn to see how the laser is expected to move.

Select “Show Traversal Moves”, and confirm that the pink or red lines remain in the work area. The pink or red lines show the expected motion when the engraver is moving with the laser off.

Below is an example of excessive speed, excessive overscan and the engraver being set to move outside the work area (the Green Line in the Preview window)

Are you using a fixed-focus and fixed-zoom camera? Anything that causes the lens to move relative to the work area can introduce an error.

When you say the engraver keeps engraving in the wrong area…

I’d like to get an idea of how far off the attempt is, compared to what you are expecting.

Does the engraver appear to be attempting to move toward you and to your left, by the amount of the whole work area, while you’re facing the machine?

For final camera alignment, four corner targets are engraved in your work area.

Please take a picture of the board with the four targets and post it here. I would like to see if there are any indications that the work area is reversed.

Is the camera directly above the center of the work area and pointed straight down?

When the camera is angled away from ‘vertical above center’ above your work area, changes in target elevation (alignment target elevation vs. workpiece elevation ) can generate an error. The error increases when the angle is further from vertical. This error is often small and frustrating and not likely what you’re describing.

If you are using the Sculpfun S9 laser, it doesn’t have limit switches, which are required for the camera to work. Did you add them? Otherwise, forget the camera.
