I have an xTool S1 20W (G-code controller). I am running the ltest version of LIghtburn on a Windows 11 based laptop
I am still very new to using LightBurn but love what I have been able to accomplish so far! I’m getting ready to create a project but not sure how I should change the power/speed settings on 1/8” (it cuts this thickness great with settings as they are with the file) and what I should change the settings to if I use 1/4” wood instead. I’m sure it’s a simple setting but not sure what to do.
I thank you in advance for any help and sorry if it’s a simple question that I should know but don’t. I did search through the documentation for Lightburn and didn’t see anything but probably didn’t search for the correct topic.
Nope, not so simple. Besides being twice as thick, it may be way out of focus by the time it gets to the bottom cuts. It is usually suggested you set the focus in about the middle of the thickness. That way it is only out of focus a little at the top and bottom.
You are also cutting through a lot more material, so you may need to add more passes than expected.
Does your laser have air assist? That can make a big difference when cutting materials.
I DO have air assist and an inline fan as well that we added a few months ago so double the fun on that. I’ll do some more digging so that I get it right. In the meantime I have 1/8” material that I can use.
