Print & Cut ignores 'set targets'

Hi there.

Slight issue with using Lightburn on a Genmitsu 3018-Prover with limit switches on.
This is to do with 'print & cut.

I have followed your excellent video on YouTube and have no issues with it.

I am trying (unsuccessfully) to burn some parts for a model plane.
I have produced 2 files with registration marks in each as the original to too large for my cutting area.
I burn the first one - no issues.
I then load the 2nd file and configure the 2 output targets on the 2 registration marks.
‘Set first target position’ is now highlighted.
‘Set second target position’ is now highlighted.
I click on ‘align output to targets’.
‘print & cut’ now appears in my laser control tab.
The 1st configured target is highlighted red with a light blue circle around it and the 2nd configured target is highlighted dark blue with a light blue circle around it.
‘Cut Selected Graphics’ is not enabled as I want to engrave everything in the file.
‘Start from’ position is set as ‘absolute Coords’.
All looks OK.

However when I click on ‘frame’ or just ‘start’, then the laser does it’s own thing and ignores both targets and goes to a position, front left of my cutting area, every time.

I have tried various setting both nothing seems to make any difference.

Any help would be appreciated.

Ok, there are a couple of reasons why the alignment gets lost.

The esoteric reason is the limit switches are required to orient the machine and do the math. Neither of my 3018s have limit switches so I haven’t made the attempt yet. Do you perform a homing operation at the beginning of your session? I would attempt to avoid homing between the two cuts.

The common reason for the alignment to get lost when doing Print and Cut is the readily overlooked nuance of jogging in the Move window in LightBurn to locate each register by hand and register them one after the other.

I’ll doublecheck with the dev that wrote this.

  1. Are you using Absolute Coords for the first burn? The machine needs to be able work properly in Absolute Coords to begin with. This basically means the machine needs to be homed previous to use.
  2. Are you at any point moving the head of the laser by hand? If so, avoid doing this as this invalidates the homing process
  3. Do not rehome between first and second run
  4. When aligning targets, is the target on-screen aligned to the correlating target already burned?

Not directly related to the alignment issue but are you aware that your design has two sets of outlines slightly set apart? Want to make sure this is intentional.
